Online Interview Guidelines

Prepare for the online interview:

Get the details. You need to know how long the interview will be and how (whether through a video call or an audio call) and where (whether Skype, Zoom or any video conferencing app) it will be conducted.

Confirm the time zone of your interview. Take your interviewer’s time zone into consideration when scheduling your online interview.

Choose a location. Find a spot with no distractions of sights or choose a neutral background like a blank wall. If a blank wall isn’t an option, try to manipulate your background to look like a more professional setting, like an organized office.

Create good lighting. Have two lights – one slightly to your left and the other slightly to your right – positioned in front of you. It’s better if one of these is a window but table lamps will do fine.

What to do before the interview:

Wear a comfortable and presentable outfit. Dress professionally as this will not only make a good impression but also boost your confidence and improve your focus.

Eliminate distractions. Make sure your interview environment, as well as your computer screen, is free from distraction and interruption.

Set up your space. Prepare the area around where you’ll be sitting for your online interview. Make sure you have a glass of water, some paper and a pen for note-taking, and cheat sheets.

Log on at least 15 minutes early. Logging on at least 15 minutes early will give you the chance to make sure everything is working as it should one last time.

Be mindful of your body language. Maintain good body posture. Sit properly and comfortably. Maintain natural, attentive eye contact. Smile often.

As an independent author, it can be hard to find effective, positive, free ways to publicise your book but it is so vital. My experience with the Readers Magnet Authors Lounge has been fantastic. I was invited to advertise, it's completely free, I was helpful clear advice along the way and they did an incredible job of integrating links to make buying my book super easy for users. I just want to huge thank you for the support.

I was so thrilled to receive an invitation from Saira Lynch on behalf of Readers Magnet to feature an article on my book The Untangling in their Authors Lounge. This kind of exposure for an author is priceless and I am very grateful for this opportunity. What a pleasure Saira has been to deal with. Thank you again!

I recommend this site 10 /10 with my fellow authors. The person who contacted me was very patient as I took WAY too much time to write my article. She took initiative to check in to see if I was still interested and aided me in getting properly signed up when I experienced difficulties. I will use them again.

Reader's Magnet, through The Author's Lounge, asked for a short article regarding my latest book release. Instead, I wrote about the creative process that brought the 4 book series to me. They published it immediately, no problem. They have done exactly as promised. Five stars.

Like many writers I'm terrible at marketing, so I was excited when ReadersMagnet asked me to write an article featuring my latest novel, "A Woman's Place". It was great to see the article published in their online journal where I know it will reach a wider audience. Thank you again for this opportunity.

This was my first time using the website and doing an interview with them. I worked with Saira, who was really helpful and nothing was too much trouble, she helped me navigate around and pointed me in the right direction when I had a couple of queries. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone- they gave a first class service.

I would like to thank Saira Lynch for featuring my new science fiction and adventure book “Rorkk’s Captive (Rotari Warriors Book 1)” in the Authors’ Lounge at Readers Magnet. This kind of exposure is invaluable to new authors, and I hope it inspires others to continue their writing careers.
